First Blog!

Hello & welcome to our blog…...

...we decided it was a great idea to bring you a round up of all things energy efficiency, and put it into simple and easily digestible chunks of information.

  • Simple advice that can help you access free grants & funding

  • Make you aware of energy consumption within your home and how to become more conscious

  • A general update about the Eco & energy industry.

But first:

Why has the price of Gas gone up?

Stored gas levels are much lower than normal. A cold winter in Europe last year has put pressure on supplies. Simple economics = the less of something the more it goes up in value.

But what is the knock on effect of increased prices?

Energy intensive industries such as ceramics, paper and steel will really feel it as they use heat at the heart of their production process. These industries will have an impact on the other sectors they supply.

What about household gas?

15 million households have seen heir energy bills rise by 12% since the beginning of the month. This is due to the energy price cap rising. This will rise again in April. The cap was put in place by Ofgem to stop energy firms making unfair profits, however as they are commercial enterprises there has to be a cost passed onto the customer too.

A few smaller energy companies have collapsed due to the price rise.

There is nothing we can do about the price rise, however there are things we can do to try and help reduce the costs of your household bills.

Changes to our homes and habits could help offset the current price hike. We have recently been doing some training with the fabulous Green Rose who are a social enterprise based in North Lancashire. They offer households free advice and support with energy issues. Their aims are to help people stay warm and well, and to make homes more sustainable.

If you need some advise you can contact them on the phone 0800 702 2528 or email info@greenrose.org.uk

Updating the fabric of our homes and changes in our habits could help offset some of the cost of the current price hike in energy bills. Bills will inevitably be more expensive, but what can you do consciously to help reduce them?

  • Turn your thermostat down ONE degree

  • Use LED lightbulbs

  • Switch off standby mode (think TV’s)

  • Air dry washing where possible and reduce the use of your tumble dryer

  • Draft-proof your home with insulation

At Get a Greener Home we can help you to access FREE funding to update the insulation in your home. This can make it feel instantly less drafty and retain heat for longer whilst helping be more economical on the energy bills.

Drop us a message or call today to start the conversation on how you can make your home cosy this winter.

If you already know you don’t qualify for funding as you are not on benefits or a low income but still want your house updating, we can help by spreading the cost. This can include boilers, windows & doors, insulation and even solar PV in any combination.
